Today in....

Laika's new film, new PS4, and one new superhero

....Movies

- Laika and Foucus Features, the studios behind the animated movies Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls, have announced their next project. Kubo and The Two Strings is described as a “sweeping, swashbuckling adventure set in a mythical ancient Japan” and will be filmed in the company’s signature 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid technique. This will be the first of a three-picture deal between the two studios that was announced in October.

- It was a good start of the holidays for Warner Bros. and The Hobbit. The Battle of the Five Armies $56.1M for the weekend and $90.6M since Wednesday. The rest of the Top Five shapes up as follows: Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb ($17.1M), Annie ($15.9M), Exodus: Gods and Kings ($7.89M), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 1 ($7.7M).

....Television

- Marvel has found a new superhero. Mike Colter, known for The Good Wife, The Following, and Halo: Nightfall, has been tapped to play Luke Cage in Netflix's and Marvel's AKA Jessica Jones and most likely the Luke Cage series as well. He is joined by Kristen Ritter, who is playing Jessica Jones.

- SNL has announced that Kevin Hart will host the first new episode of 2015 on January 17. No word on who will be the musical guest. Hart last hosted in 2013.

....Video Games

- Microsoft has announced three free games for their January Games with Gold. D4, a bizarre murder mystery, will be available for download all month for Xbox One. For the first half of January, MX vs. ATV Alive, and during the second have The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, will be available for 360 owners.

- In another case of Japan getting something news, SONY has announced a red and black PS4 will be released in Japan on March 19, 2015. It will also come with Final Fantasy Type O. No word of if it will be coming to America, but Type O drops in the US on March 17, 2015, and on March 20 in Europe.
